What is the best fine art watercolor paper for giclée fine art giclée
prints?
An
excellent choice is fine art paper from the Hahnemuhle
Collection of Digital Fine Art paper. This
fine art paper is for digital art prints, ideal for
limited editions of giclée prints and digital fine art in general. If
you need special paper to reproduce historical photographs with that
special look, then again, look at the Hahnemuhle Collection of Digital
Fine Art paper
Hahnemuhle
digital fine art paper works equally well with pigmented (archival) inks as well as dye based inks. So if you need color intensity
and quality, you have come to the right place. These papers work especially
well with the Hewlett-Packard DesignJet printers, both the original
2000cp, 2500cp, 2800cp, the 54" models 3000cp, 3500cp, and 3800cp
and the newer HP
DesignJet 5000 and 5000ps.
Now
of course the model of choice would be the HP DesignJet 5000 or 5000ps.
These are all thermal printhead technology.
The
same HP thermal printheads are used by all current models of ColorSpan
printers.

If
you are interested in the new "4-color" black-and-white inks
such as Ilford Archiva MonoKrome inks, then Hahnemuhle Albrecht Durer
and Hahnemuhle German Etching are two good papers to work with. FLAAR
will be using these fine art papers, so check back about the time of
the Seybold San Francisco trade show or for Photokina trade show.
Hahnemuehle
paper was prominently displayed at the DRUPA
printer trade show in Germany.
What
is always enjoyable to do with your printer is to try out different
kinds of fine art paper. Thus at a recent PMA trade show we finally
met the people behind the nice family-owned Hawk Mountain Art Papers.
We have not yet had the opportunity to use their media because we are
in the middle of setting up a newer larger evaluation studio at a state
university. In the meantime we found another reliable place to get information
on media, namely from Parrot Digigraphic. e-mail imaging@parrotcolor.com.
